20 Years & Still Waiting On My Millions!

24 Apr 2024

Years ago, I started writing a book about a lilttle vampire called Bram who hated the taste of blood. It was supposed to be a short book with illustrations for kids, the first in a series. I was supposed to finish it quickly, contact every childrens book publisher in Europe and start writing the next one. Bish, bash, bosh, easy, peasy. “I’ll be rolling in the millions in no time,” I thought. After all, that’s what JK Rowling did wasn’t it?!

That was almost twenty years ago and I’m still waiting on my millions! To be fair though; I’m still not finished the book! So there is that!

In my defence though - the story did evolve and morph. I worked on it fairly consistently for about eight or nine years & I wrote over 100,000 words, so it’s pretty safe to say that the little story about the vampire Bram doesn’t really have much of the original idea left in it. Bram’s not even a vampire anymore! Pretty much everything changed, except for Brams name of course. I love that name and it’s my little nod to Bram Stoker.

I must have restarted the whole project at least four times, but alas; never finished any single incarnation of it. I haven’t written anything on it for about ten years, but for some reason a few weeks ago the story popped back into my head, so I went back and read the first few chapters, and I thought, “Wow, I miss hanging out in this world.”

It reminded me of how much I love writing & the whole creative process, so I decided there and then:

“I’m going to finally finish this book and slowly publish it chapter by chapter on my blog.”

It’s actually one of the main reasons why I started this site! So, there you have it, this site is a blog, but it’s also my way of keeping myself accountable to finally finish a story I started about twenty years ago. A story called “Shadowlands”.
